Founder and President of SosteNica, Dr. Wright received his doctorate in Philosophy from Yale University. For thirty years, Dr. Wright has worked for social and economic justice in Nicaragua. He lived and worked in Nicaragua from 1990 through 1995. Dr. Wright is currently collaborating with a team of Nicaraguan professionals to deliver micro-credit and bio-intensive agriculture to rural Nicaraguan communities. In addition to his work on behalf of Nicaragua, Dr. Wright works to promote agro-ecology and food forestry as ways toward first and third-world food security and greater connectedness to the earth.
Chief Executive Officer and Board Treasurer, Joe received his B.A. from Yale University in 1986 and his M.F. from the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies in 1996. He has significant professional experience in financial services and general management including 25 years with GE Capital and The Prudential. In addition, Mr. DeNicola founded and led the Candlewood Timber Group, a sustainable forestry company operating in Argentina. He is the Treasurer of the Yale Alumni Nonprofit Alliance and past Chair and current Member of the Board of Solar Youth, a nonprofit dedicated to youth leadership development.
Leysman Mendez is Director of the EcoCenter. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in Tropical Agroecology Engineering from the National Autonomous University of Nicaragua (UNAN-León ). He has worked with the Small Grants Program of the United Nations in Nicaragua, monitoring and evaluating community-based projects, which focused on environmental conservation. He also worked in reforestation projects and with the Attorney General’s Office project of Property Ordinance, where he acquired skills in staff supervision, information management, and the use of measuring instruments such as global positioning devices and map reading. Eduardo is a field technical advisor and is responsible for the school garden network at the EcoCentro. He graduated in 2006 with a degree in Tropical Agroecology Engineering from UNAN-León. He has worked on a silvopasture pilot project for the Millennium Challenge Account - Nicaragua and acted as an agroecology field consultant for UNAN-León. He was previously employed by Pro Mujer-León as an agriculture credit officer with specific responsibility for the management of the organization’s biointensive system.
Santiago Esteban Medina López
Santiago provides technical advice to affiliated producers, mainly eco technology and agroecological management of farm as field technician. He graduated in Agricultural Engineering from the International University of Agriculture and Livestock of Rivas and has 15 years of experience in agroecological production and farm management. Santiago has worked with different national organizations, including the global vision Nicaragua, CEPS, Global Student Embassy, and the Nochari association. He has skills in biointensive agriculture, food security, group management and participatory techniques which has allowed him to share his experience with producers from different regions of Nicaragua.
Delma Kristell Roa Aguilar
Delma is the Accounting Administrator at SosteNica – EcoCentro. She graduated with a degree in Business Administration from the Universidad Centroamericana de Managua (UCA). Delma has 6 years of experience working in microfinance in areas of customer service, credit analysis, and administration. She also offers private lessons in mathematics.
Rocío del Carmen Solís Solís
Rocío is responsible for marketing and advertising at SosteNica-EcoCentro. She also works as an art teacher (drawing and painting) at schools participating in the SosteNica-EcoCentro School Garden Network. She developed artistic skills of a different kind from a very early age, and is currently in her 2nd year of a degree in graphic design and advertising at the Universidad de Ciencias Comerciales de León (UCC).
Mario Gerardo Solórzano Valle
Mario is responsible for the model garden at SosteNica-EcoCentro and eco-stove construction. He grew up in the rural sector of Nagarote, where he developed his practical agroecological production skills. He also has experience in construction of eco-technologies, woodwork and electrical installations. Mario is currently completing his secondary school studies in Nagarote.
Wendy Azucena Cruz Figueroa
Wendy is responsible for logistics, maintenance and operations at SosteNica-EcoCentro. She has experience in crafts and interior decoration, and is currently studying Industrial Engineering at the Universidad de Managua (UDM).
